Too much mental flabbiness exists today. A trained conscience is developed through personal reflection. But without a commitment to truth, personal reflection will result only in rationalization. Those who simply justify themselves do not convince. To know truth one must let go of traditional self-knowledge; nothing is more powerful and creative than the empty cup.

No matter our profession or age, we find ourselves challenged in a world of rapid chaotic change. Many of our institutions of a few years ago that provided structure and security, are no longer able to do so. We feel afloat and at sea with many options, yet very few guidelines on how to live a meaningful life today.
